Australien - Melbourne

Melbourne is great! A city with family like atmosphere. We really loved it straight away.

Melbourne fascinated us with:
- a white sandy beach where you can go sun bathing, swimming and even kite surfing
- a fun park for kids and adults
- with sweets like pastries and cakes that let a (Tomy’s) heart beat harder. “You can watch but dinner is home” (in Germany where the prices won’t ruin your apetite)
- with an impressive architecture and skyline as well as countless parks
- and with the Australien Open 2012, its final we simply couldn’t miss.

Yeah! Tickets for the final match!

True fans stay until 2am while "it rained cats and dogs", watching the ever since longest final of a Grand Slam ... and even sneak into the arena. That was awesome! : )

Australien - On the road, heading south (Inland New South Wales)

Moving further inland a totally different flora and fauna emerged in front of us. We loved it to explore the jungle-like national parks or simply to drive through the infinity of Australia. In the national park “Boonoo Boonoo we climbed the second biggest (after Ayers Rock - Uluru) monolith of Australia, “Bald Rock”. In the national park Nangar we had unforgettable contact with kangaroos. At sunset we took a chance to go even further into the wild and found ourselves in the middle of nowhere among very active kangaroos which we could watch from our minivan, definitely better than TV at starlight. It was truly a pleasure, only nature, us and nothing else, well; we were sometimes a bit scared we have to confessJ. When we were not somewhere exploring the wildlife, we stopped in one of the other small towns which turned out to be quite interesting: “Tenterfield” - the birthplace of Australia, “Tamworth” – the Australian Center of Country Music (there was even a festival going on at that time), “Armidale” – Australia’s highest location and “Shepparton”, where hundreds of canary birds sang us there lullaby.

Australien - On the road, heading north (Sunshine Coast & Gold Coast)

As planned, we travelled from Sydney along the east coast northbound - via Brisbane, passing the Glashouse Mountains, visiting Surfers Paradise and driving up to Noosa. Unfortunately, the weather got worse and we changed our plans (going to the Great Barrier Reef and Cairns) due to the beginning of the wet season in the North East of Australia.  We went through the countryside to Melbourne, still 10 days left to the final of the Australian Open. Will we make it?
