Australien - On the road, heading north (Sunshine Coast & Gold Coast)

As planned, we travelled from Sydney along the east coast northbound - via Brisbane, passing the Glashouse Mountains, visiting Surfers Paradise and driving up to Noosa. Unfortunately, the weather got worse and we changed our plans (going to the Great Barrier Reef and Cairns) due to the beginning of the wet season in the North East of Australia.  We went through the countryside to Melbourne, still 10 days left to the final of the Australian Open. Will we make it?

Australien - On the road, heading north (Sydney to Byron Bay)

After one week of Sydney we are excited what else Australia has to offer.  Of course, our just rented van had to be filled with Aldi-products before we finally passed the giant harbor bridge. Our tour northbound has just started and it feels good breathing freedom of the Campervan.
Since prices for camping near Sydney were ridiculously high (50-70A$ just to mention the cheaper ones) we spent the night in quite neighborhoods. It was sometimes a bit thrilling since sleeping in the car is forbidden by law.  There are heavy fines for staying overnight especially near beaches. However, the further we are away from Sydney the more relaxed the officials became. We set the alarm to an early hour not to be recognized at dawn. We, therefore, came to enjoy the beautiful sunrises, showers in the sea and breakfast on the beach. We also camped several times in national parks peacefully and inexpensively. We have been very close to the nature; found white sand beaches just for us and woke up among kangaroos. Once, when preparing dinner, two big kangaroos just jumped through the camp next to our van, we froze for a second as if we had seen dinosaurs, woaaaw. During the last few days we have surfed with body & surf boards through the stylish wave of Byron Bay. It is so much fun and we decided to stay longer.

Australien - Sydney Zoo & Blue Mountains - Jan 2/3

Loan and Mahir, you are the best! Many thanks again for the lovely B’day present. The Taronga Zoo in Sydney is really cool! We have seen tired Kangoroos and active Koalas, it was a very nice day.

Äh, hallo?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We went to the Blue Mointains by train, which are 2 hours away from Sydney. Do you know why it’s called Blue Mountains? The color results from the eucalyptus oil in the air. The fantastic view was definately worth it to come here!
